Reading has always been one of my favorite past times. Back in the days when I hopped on an airplane every Sunday and Thursday, I would have a handful of e-books ready to open up and swallow me up for those hours.
It allowed me to escape from work, from other people, from life some days. Back then, my favorite genre was a murder mystery and anything thriller.
As my boys got older, time became more and more of a commodity, and reading became less of a priority.
Then in 2018, when my youngest son was diagnosed with stage IV cancer, I found myself in the car driving back and forth from home to Memphis weekly. Twelve hours in the car led to a lot of silent tears.
It was the car, that I discovered the Chapman Church on Wheels. My car became my sanctuary when my genre changed to anything that would redirect my thoughts to hope, to Jesus.
Favorite Christian Books
After three years of treatment, my son was fully healed and moved on to his next home with Jesus. It was then, that I started reading/listening to anything that would help me understand what grief was and how to “get through it.” Turns out, it is not something one “gets through”, it is a journey. Another journey. A journey that no one wants to embark on, ever. Never the less, we are not often given a choice. Below is a list of the books that I read or listened and continue to listen to as we are still pretty fresh on this grief journey.
Important Books on Grief and Grieving
If you are here and reading this, I hope any one of these books provides you support and a reason for hope.
