When Hope Seems So Far Away
Throughout my son’s 67 weeks of treatment for Rhabdo, there were days were I was in complete despair, especially in the beginning of his treatment. We had been given a prognosis of a 10% chance of a year. The tumors had overtaken his body. He had gone from playing 3rd grade basketball to a wheelchair in a matter of a couple of weeks. All medical “proof”, scans and doctors led us to believe that Cooper would not see his 10th birthday. But God is bigger than cancer!
In the moments were the darkness was almost tangible and when it was the hardest to seek God, that is exactly what we had to do to see the light. There is a saying that I was always told during Cooper’s treatment, “God doesn’t give you any more than you can handle.” I just smile and shake my head because 1. God didn’t give my son cancer. 2. Life does give us way more than we can handle on our own and that is when we lean in on Christ. He walks with us through it. He cries with us through it.
For some, life may be punching you in the gut and it can be anything. Each of us are in our own journey and your path may be very different than mine. But that doesn’t lessen the hardness. You may be facing something traumatic or may be just had a terrible day. Regardless, the darkness doesn’t hold back. It doesn’t wait for a good time to flood into you. It is in those moments, turn to a friend or a bible verse or play some praise music (see my go to playlist during Cooper’s treatment in my post here A Play List For A Momma When You Need Hope.
